Koehnline Features Persecuted German Artist Stahl

Works by German artist Georg A. Stahl (1903– 1982) will be on display in a free exhibition at the Koehnline Museum of Art, starting Thursday, Sept. 2.

Fragments of Color: George Stahl features post-World War II paintings by the artist who immigrated to the Netherlands in 1930 to escape Hitler’s “cultural purification” politics. The exhibition features dynamic compositions from the 1950s and 1960s that reflect Stahl’s personal experiences of political persecution, exile and financial difficulties.

The public is invited to a free reception with refreshments, 5 – 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 2. The exhibition runs through Friday, Oct. 15.

The Koehnline Museum of Art is open 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday.
