Oakton Faculty Recognized for Excellence
John Carzoli, professor of physics, and Michael Madill, instructor of geography, history, and political science, are the recipients of the 2010 Ray Hartstein Awards for Outstanding Professional Excellence in Teaching at Oakton Community College. The honors were announced Aug. 19 at the College’s annual breakfast.
Carzoli, chair of the physical science department, joined Oakton full time in 1999. He holds doctorate and master’s degrees in physics from the University of Oklahoma, and a bachelor’s degree in physics, chemistry and math from Beloit College. A member of Oakton’s part-time faculty since 2005, Madill holds a master’s degree in politics and government from the University London and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Michigan.
Named for the founder of Oakton’s Board of Trustees, the Ray Hartstein Award annually recognizes one full-time and one part-time faculty member. Nominees must demonstrate excellence in teaching and respect for students and peers. Following a review by the Board of Student Affairs, the Oakton Educational Foundation Awards Committee selects winners.
