Library Services for Online Students at Oakton Community College
The Oakton Community College Library is here for you, the distance learning student. If you are an Oakton student, the Oakton Library article databases and online resources are accessible from your home computer. This page lists the many services and resources available to you, and we are here to help you with your reference and research needs.
Access to Desire2Learn (D2L)
Access your Oakton Community College online courses via the "My Courses" tab in myOakton.
Access to Full-text Articles in Magazines and Journals
Many of the library's online indexes include the full text of articles in magazines and journals. A reference librarian can help you to use the library's online indexes. Call (847) 635-1644 during library hours or use the e-mail reference service.
You do not need login information when you are on campus. If you are off campus and are asked for a login, ID, or password, type in your Oakton user name and password (this is the same user name and password you use to login to myOakton and D2L).
Articles that are not full-text on the computer may be obtained in print either from the Oakton Community College Library periodicals collection or through Interlibrary Loan. Please call Marilyn Clay at (847) 635-1608 for pick up or mailing options.
Access to Oakton Library and I-Share Catalog
To find books use the Oakton Library Catalog. Please call Marilyn Clay at (847) 635-1608 for pick up or mailing options. Your MyOakton username and Library/Student ID Number password (on your Oakton Library/Student ID card) are required to request, borrow, and renew books online from the Oakton Library as well as from other I-Share Catalog libraries in Illinois.
Access to Fast Facts & Encyclopedias Online
Oakton Community College Library provides many Full-text reference books online, such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, citation guides, maps, and almanacs. You do not need login information when you are on campus. If you are off campus and are asked for a login, ID, or password, type in your Oakton user name and password (this is the same user name and password you use to login to myOakton and D2L).
Library/Student ID CardHere's how to get your Oakton Library/Student ID card, which must be updated each semester:
In person: please bring your current semester course schedule and a picture ID with verification of address (driver's license or state ID) to the Oakton Library circulation desk at the Des Plaines or Skokie campus to get your new Oakton Library/Student ID card.
Online Oakton course students: please contact the Oakton Library Public Services Specialist Marilyn Clay at (847) 635-1608 for more information about obtaining your Oakton Library/Student ID card.
