Ready for Lift-off

While many kids dream of becoming an astronaut, most change their career aspirations as they grow older. Rebecca Preisler, however, still hasn’t scuttled the possibility.

I would love to be an astronaut. I love my math and science classes and I have always loved outer space. So much out there remains to be discovered – and I long to be part of that exploration. Working for NASA would be the ultimate job.

As much as I love math and science, I love art too. I have won awards for my pottery work, and really enjoy working with any medium. I wouldn’t mind following that path, but it’s challenging to choose just one field to study.

I’m also taking advantage of Oakton’s awesome athletics program. This year, I’m adding track and field to my volleyball and softball experiences here at the College, and I’m really excited — especially about pole vaulting! When you let go of the pole and clear the bar, it’s so gratifying and exhilarating, and it feels like flying! It’s not exactly the same thing as being an astronaut, but it’s still putting me where I want to be – up in the air.
