Oakton offers both credit and noncredit English as a Second Language (ESL) programs.
Which one is right for you?
Non-credit ESL offers:
- Beginning through high-intermediate levels
- Focus in lower levels on survival skills; focus in upper levels on comprehensive listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar
- Free and low cost tuition-based courses.
- Classes at the Ray Hartstein campus in Skokie and many community locations.
- Morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend classes.

Credit ESL offers:
- Low-intermediate through advanced levels
- Focus on academic and advanced work-related skills; preparation for college and university courses
- Tuition-based program
- Classes at the Des Plaines campus and the Ray Hartstein campus in Skokie.
- Morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend classes.
